2024 Impact Report is now out!

In 2024 VFWT met one of Southern Africa’s worst-recorded droughts head-on, expanding support for both communities and wildlife through proactive relief and innovation. Our Wildlife Disease lab completed 6,523 diagnostic procedures and our veterinary teams freed 53 wild animals from snares for treatment, while vaccinating 2,118 rural dogs to safeguard human and ecosystem health. Field teams scaled up conflict-mitigation efforts: four new predator-proof mobile bomas now protect 392 cattle (for 79 families), and our Community Guardians responded to 207 conflict incidents – so effectively that no lions were lost to conflict in 2024. In education, VFWT reached 1,221 people (946 students and 275 community members) through school clubs and outreach events, planting the seeds of long-term conservation. The report also highlights science-driven milestones – for example, 11 endangered vultures were GPS-tagged (152 nesting sites surveyed), and 30 black and white rhinos were safely dehorned (with 7 fitted with tracking transmitters) – all critical measures to protect these species.

These data-driven achievements underscore VFWT’s leadership in wildlife protection and community resilience.
